Jackson County, Kentucky has been named a Smart Rural Community (SRC). SRC recognizes top-performing broadband providers and their communities through its Showcase Awards—promoting rural broadband networks and applications that communities can leverage to support innovative economic development, education, health care, government services, public safety and other vital public functions.

Kentucky's Fastest Broadband
In 2009, Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative (PRTC) offers Kentucky’s fastest broadband, providing speeds up to 1 gig upload and download, county wide. PRTC is a Certified Gig-Capable Provider and one of the few offered in America for delivering gigabit broadband speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, which is 100 times faster than those currently available in many U.S. households.
